Event-based Recovery and Compliance
Today, the concept of dealing with business disruption is increasingly focused on "resiliency". This means ensuring that data is both available and protected in accordance with regulatory requirements such as Gramm-Leach-Bliley, SEC 17a-4, Sarbanes-Oxley and other relevant requirements. One of the key aspects to resiliency is ensuring that the organization can recover to a specific business event.

InMage enables vastly improved recovery by allowing a priori capture of key business events. Example of business events could be:

  • Time-based: hourly, half-hourly, etc
  • Fine-grained: every write, every time a file updates, or every meaningful transaction
  • Cross host: across specific hosts such as the app-server and database server, across every host, across local and remote hosts
  • Specific business triggers: such as whenever a million dollar transaction is committed, end of quarter reconciliation, a key contract completion, before a patch is applied to a critical server, a key customer's sales data is committed into your CRM system, a data mart is created, a virus outbreak has been detected by upstream appliances etc.
  • Tiering policies: based on age, e.g. 30 days, or with user intervention when files and application objects are automatically "stubbed" so that they can be retried when next accessed.

How it Works:

Unique Features and Benefits:
Event-based restore: Intelligent application of consistency enforcement

Unlike other vendors, who promise "event-based restoration" but in reality can only restore to a given moment in time, DR-Scout provides application consistency. This allows you to actually bookmark specific events in a way that correlates all the relevant applications and data. With DR-Scout, you can bookmark anything: any transaction over $1M, a major software upgrade, a month-end closing...anything that is relevant for your business. To restore to that event, simply point at the bookmark and your system is exactly where it was when the event occurred.

With other products, you may only be able to go back to a daily backup tape, with gaping windows of missing critical data. Other products may claim to provide event-based restoration, but in reality they force you to find, for every server and every application, the specific point in time when that event occurred. Then it is a painful process of manually correlating all the data, hoping you haven't missed a critical component.

Industrial-Strength Hybrid CDP: Our patent-pending approach provides a hybrid approach, combining the best of host-based and network-based approaches without the drawbacks of either. Organizations that use DR-Scout avoid the pitfalls of traditional array-based approaches which are very costly and tied to a proprietary, inflexible architecture. They also avoid the problems associated with host-based approaches that limit performance with the overhead of server-based software that consumes CPU cycles. A light-weight agent runs on the application server, but sends the data to an out-of-band application that does all the "heavy-lifting" like compression and encryption.

Fast, Reliable Operational Recovery: In less than a minute, DR-Scout can generate a view of a volume as it existed an hour ago, or a file as it was one minute ago. Contrast this with other vendors' products that can only deal with daily backups, with an extremely slow restore from tape, or more coarsely-grained time intervals. Today's business cannot afford to lose a day's, an hour's, or even a minute's work. With DR-Scout, you have true continuous data protection.

Cost Savings: Tremendous cost savings can be achieved with the DR-Scout. As a software-only solution, it is architected to work with off-the-shelf hardware. Heterogeneous support avoids the costs incurred by vendor lock-in as with array-based approaches. And, you can have weeks of online protection for critical data and applications, avoiding costly downtime. With DR-Scout, you can use inexpensive disk as the local backup media, periodically (and in a controlled fashion) offloading data to tape for longer-term retention.

Ensures Compliance: Organizations in a variety of industries need to prove compliance with regulatory requirements. This means ensuring that data is both available and protected in accordance with regulatory requirements such as Gramm-Leach-Bliley, SEC 17a-4, Sarbanes-Oxley and other relevant requirements. DR-Scout provides continuous data availability and protection for data both at your primary site, and at remote backup sites. DR-Scout provides a much-needed layer of defense that can mean the difference between compliance and steep fines.
